What a Weekend of PawsAbilities!
What did you do at PawsAbilities 2010? There was something for every dog and their family to do.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes competed in the Dog Olympic Games. They wiggled under the limbo stick in Doggy Limbo, ate everything on their plate in the Clean Plate Club, played Musical Hoops, showed their love for their owners in the Kiss Off, showed off their self control in Leave It, and much more!
New this year, we held the Cutest Dog Contest. There were so many cute dogs, it was difficult for the audience to choose a winner!
The day was filled with other exciting presentations and demonstrations. SSD Gideon showcased the skills of a service dog, and SSD Lavender and SSD Cabo helped demonstrate clicker training and shaping. Accelerant K-9 Loki and her handler Detective Dennis Woodring demonstrated how Loki detects gasoline and other fire accelerants. The bloodhounds of Summit Search and Rescue showed off their tracking abilities, and the Northern Piedmont Retriever Club demonstrated hunting retrieving. The Appalachian Air Canines caught hundreds of frisbees, and the Steppin’ Woofs, a canine freestyle group, danced a hoe-down!
The Ultimate Air Dogs made a huge splash! Dogs sprinted and leaped off the dock for a watery, canine long jump. People and dogs caught the excitement as they watched these dogs leap 10, 15, 20 feet off the dock!
Everyone enjoyed shopping at over 50 vendor booths. The colorful displays of collars and leashes, pet clothing, beds, tasty homemade treats, photography and more were a dogs dream.
Each day wrapped up with the popular Abrams & Weakley Parade. All dogs, large and small, pranced around the Main Hall. The grand parade judges awarded prizes in 20 categories, including most Irish, most drool, spots, biggest paws and shortest legs.
If PawsAbilities 2010 was this much fun, we can’t wait for PawsAbilities 2011! We’re looking forward to seeing you next year for another weekend of celebrating dogs and their amazing ability to brighten lives.
